Multimedia Summer

Today Sebastian asked me how I organized the 5 editions of the Multimedia Summer.
It is a long and nice story of a project that had a huge impact not only upon me but mostly upon the participants.
Some of them have been influenced in their future professional development changing their careers ( in a positive way, of course).

Everything started in 1998 when I attended a training course at Pilgrims, Canterbury, UK "Hands on Multimedia". There I discovered the Internet and its power to change the world.
I met people from all continets, youngs and adults.

One day I told to myself: "If they can, why cannot I?"
In 2000, helped by Rodica Balaszi- Szentes, teacher of English, Petre Mitru and his team from Multinet, Frank Roosevelt and Steve Willis, computing teachers from the USA, Lucia Gliga from the Ministry of Education, I started to work on the first project : Multimedia Summer Camp. The help from my school, Colegiul National Mihai Eminescu, consisted in offering me the rooms and the Multimedia Lab.
45 students from Baia Mare had a great time together. You can find more info about it here.

In 2001 I succeded to invite students and trainers from Bulgaria, Israel,Macedonia, Malta, the USA and Turkey. I organized workshops for 75 students and teachers. Read about it!
On this occasion I won the first financial support from Baia Mare Local Council. The Mayor Cristian Anghel started to attend the Opening Ceremonies, offering us a huge moral support.
Gina Calauz from the Agency of School Camps and Tourism helped us with the accommodation and meals.
The success drew the attention of the local authorities and Delia Ardelean, the General School Inspector, invited me to join her team at Maramures County School Inspectorate as inspector of international cooperation.

In 2002 a step forward was made. Gina Calauz offered her support for the Multimedia Summer in getting financing for accommodation and food from the National Agency of School Camps and Tourism via the Ministry of Education and Research.
This time we also organized Grundtvig 3 courses with international participation. Further information about the event is available This event was awarded the certificate European Label 2003.

People did not like too much this success and I decided to resign taking a one year leave.

In 2004 Info Project and BitGrup, together with the Agency of School Camps and Tourism and Petre Dulfu County Library organized the 5th edition focussing on Project Management and New Technologies in Education. The event began with a three day International Conference. Do not miss to read about it in its magazine.

If you find this project interesting, I invite you to help me begin the organization of the 6th edition!
